Most people have heard that climate change is occurring at a record speed. It is something that is thought to be the result of modern man contributing to the acceleration. Global warming is at an all-time high with each year being warmer than the last one for almost a decade. These changes are often noted in the major media and are taught in schools across the globe. However, what many people do not notice is that there seems to be a relationship between the amount of pollen that is produced and climate change. Let’s go over why this is, and what problems this is causing for people around the world all because climate change is happening at such a rapid pace.
Why Would Pollen Be Produced At A Much Higher Level Due To Global Warming?
Pollen is a substance that is produced by flowers and even trees. It is very fine, typically yellow in color. These microscopic grains can be discharged, usually during the spring, something that comes out of the male portion of the flora. It has the ability to cause people to have allergies, and this is where individuals can develop hayfever. Over the last decade, more people than ever before are complaining about getting hayfever, not just during the spring time, but throughout most of the year. This is because of the strange weather that has been occurring, prompting the release of pollen at unpredictable times. So why is this happening more often? Many people believe that it is directly the result of climate change.
How Climate Change Produces More Pollen
It is able to induce the release of more pollen because of how different weather patterns are now. In the past, plant life would release pollen as the weather would get warmer, and this typically happened around spring time on both hemispheres of the world. However, there have been many months during the winter where temperatures have been over 70°, and this can actually cause the flowers to release pollen at the wrong time. Likewise, it might be cold for extended periods of time, going far into the spring months, and when it finally does warm up, pollen is released at incredible rates area
It is because of these changes in our climate that we are now experiencing some of the worst hayfever seasons on record. Pollen is being released at much higher rates, and at more times during the year, than ever before. The only way to resolve this is to get things back to normal which begins with improving our environment. This could be brought back to normal by reducing the amount of CO2 emissions that we are all producing, helping to reduce the temperature of the globe worldwide. This could help things get back on a regular schedule, and once it does, pollen release will not be as detrimental to those that suffer from allergies.
